This is based on research by Tom Flower, including this recent paper in Science titled Deception by Flexible Alarm Mimicry in an African Bird. This research was covered quite extensively in the press.

i love the common name of these birds. we have a spangled drongo in northern australia. the word drongo is used derogatively in australia to describe a person you don’t like, so i giggle every time i hear about feathered drongos
